Why a Woozle?

Because the world, the media, and our culture are at once confusing, endearing, frightening, and hilarious– just like Pooh’s Heffalumps and Woozles.  And Woozles and Heffalumps, like the media, are everywhere: as the song goes, “They’re far they’re near they’re gone they’re here/ They’re quick and slick and insincere.”  If kids passively let Woozles and Heffalumps– media and culture– take hold, they’ll end up being played for the fool, as were Pooh and his friends.  But if they can recognize these cultural tools for what they are, and engage them with active minds, they can remain masters of themselves.
